March 2010 Activity
Tour of the State Capitol

In the morning we took a tour of the State Capitol followed by lunch at Fuddruckers.

I didn't take this picture, but it is a nice intro to this photo album.

This is the Idaho State Capitol building, housing the Idaho Legislature. The main building was completed by 1913. It is the only state capitol to be heated by a geothermal well.

An extensive two-year $120 million renovation project was completed on January 9, 2010, two days before the start of the legislative session and one day ahead of schedule.

We began the tour with a movie about the history of the Capitol building.

This is one of the new, large meeting rooms.

Photos of each years members of Congress adorn the hallways in the first level.

The dome is spectacular.

A closeup of the top of a column shows the detailed filigree.

Pat and Marvin waiting for an elevator. They may have a long wait for this one.

The first floor is empty for a moment.

Filing in to the governor's office.

Gary got to play governor for a moment.

Finally, we sat in the gallery while the House was in session.
